Enjoy the delicious taste of British Apples by ordering a bumper box directly from Roughway Farm. Currently Available in weights of 4kg to 9kg. 

We have a range of our apple varieties available from crunchy Gala to the fantastic British Blush (tastes like Magic Star). When ordering either select a specific variety or alternatively select Any Eating Variety and we will send the most current variety. We will send out delicious apples, there may be occasional marks, but the taste will be fantastic.

We also have a limited supply of Bramley apples. These range in size and shape. Bramley is particularly prone to marking (because they are more prone to hail markings). Bramley will need to be specifically selected as this is most commonly known as a cooking variety.

Please be aware that the apple harvest can move rapidly so we may have to substitute a ordered apple variety.

*Fresh Fruit Delivery – We currently use APC Overnight Delivery or DPD Next Day. These services operate Monday to Friday in England and Wales and do not deliver on Saturday or Sunday. For customers in Scotland most of the time it is the same service as England and Wales, this is true for Glasgow and Edinburgh but remote areas may take 2 days, Islands and Highlands may have a supplementary charge, we may contact you after your order if this is required or please email for Scottish rates. We allow 1 day processing time and an additional day for delivery. The fruit is only in transit for 1 day from us to you. Example: Order Wednesday for Delivery on Friday. While every possible effort will be made to fulfil this service we cannot be held responsible for problems caused by the courier company. Orders placed on Friday and over the weekend will be processed for a Tuesday dispatch at the latest. Eg. Thursday, Friday, Weekend orders could arrive Tuesday or Wednesday. Orders after 4pm may be moved into the following day. DPD and APC both provide tracking. During preorders we dispatch on harvest in order of received.     My box of apples arrived along with the jam and granola I ordered. They are delicious and full of flavour, just like an apple should taste. I am just sorry my dad is no longer with us as he was always trying to source a real good tasty one. Just about to stew some for breakfast and have shared a few with my mum and neighbour.

Mirabelle Plums also known as Cherry Plums are sweet and full of flavour. They are perfect fresh but they can also be made into fantastic jams and even brandy. Speckled markings feature on the golden flesh. They are typically harvested between August and September depending on conditions. If your Mirabelles arrive green allow them to go a lovely yellow in fridge or out of the fridge for quicker results, if ripening out of fridge avoid direct mid day sun and refrigerate when yellow.

Mirabelle plums feature in many French dishes including Tarte aux Mirabelles.

Greengages are a really special treat this time of year, their deliciously succulent taste is perfect on its own but also in a variety of dishes. Distinctly different in flavour to many plum varieties greengages are a real seasonal treat. We would describe the flavour as gloriously reminiscent of honey but with a lovely fruity freshness.

Potted Gunslebert Cobnut Trees – Out of Stock

We now have a number of  Gunslebert Cobnut trees available in 7 Litre pots – We are out of 3 litre Gunslebert Cobnut trees. These trees are on British grown roots and are suitable for planting most places in the UK.

These are ideal for planting and producing high yielding trees. Many garden centers currently sell seedling trees and these usually yield very few cobnuts. These trees are the same trees that we grow on the farm and if properly maintained should produce a good crop of Kent Cobnuts.

Cobnuts are packed full of vitamins, minerals and fibre. In winter the catkins on the trees brighten up the trees.

Two varieties are deemed preferable for pollination but not essential as common hedge row nut can assist with pollination.

The trees do vary in size and shape but are generally between 30cm and a meter. We cannot guarantee the size of the trees selected for delivery but every care is taken to select a good tree.

 

On Arrival:

We advise watering the pot and planting promptly into the ground or into a large pot for later planting if required. The pot should have room to allow further root growth. The tree will need a healthy watering over the first few days.

If planting dig a hole twice the size of the pot and tease out the roots.Make sue that the root ball is level and not at an angle. Water regularly and monitor.

The aim after this point will be to manage the growth of branches. These should be allowed to form at least 60cm from the ground.

Our fresh Green/Golden Gunslebert Cobnuts are now available for pre-order. The Gunslebert is a variety of hazelnut that has a unique and enjoyable flavour. As a nut the Gunslebert is more rounded than the Kent Cob and also has a frilly husk. As a nut they can be eaten fresh or used in dishes.

Our Gunslebert Cobnuts are available in weights ranging from 500g to 20kg and are harvested between September and October.

2024 Harvest – Dispatching

Our fresh Green Cobnuts are widely renowned for their full flavour, they are perfect in dishes or simply on their own. Cobnuts have a nationally recognised nutritional profile and are said to be fantastic sources of protein:

Cobnut kernels typically contain 12%-17% protein by dry weight, and about 10%-15% fibre. Cobnuts are very rich in vitamin E and in calcium, typically containing about 21mg and 141mg per 100g kernel (dry weight) respectively. They provide about 0.4mg and 0.55mg of vitamins B1 and B6 respectively per 100g dry weight.

 

Our Cobnuts are available in weights ranging from 500g to 20kg and are harvested between August and October.

Kent Cobnut Trees

Kent Cobnut Trees – Due to staff holiday these will not be dispatched until W/C 15th April 2024

They are available to collect by appointment or delivery. They are bare root and will be without a pot. These trees have been propagated on our own heritage Kent Cobnut trees some of which are 100 years old. This was featured on Marcus Wareing’s tales from the Kitchen garden. These are whips / clones from the heritage mother trees and so should be ideal for producing the Kent Cob variety.

Many garden centres currently sell seedling trees and these usually yield very few cobnuts. These trees are the same trees that we grow on the farm and if properly maintained should produce a good crop of Kent Cobnuts.

If planting make sure that the root ball is level and not at an angle. Water regularly and monitor. Do avoid planting if the ground is totally saturated and wait until drier, perhaps store in a pot during this time. You may need to purchase or make a tree guard ifor protection in the first 4 years.

The aim after this point will be to manage the growth of branches. These should be allowed to form at least 60cm from the ground. As we are now offering 2ft-3ft (61cm-91cm) whips we have begun this for you.
