500g – 1Kg: Dehusked Ennis Cobnut Gift Bag

Our Ennis are now out of stock – See you in 2020

Our cobnut gift bags are the perfect present for anyone who loves cobnuts at Christmas and nuts generally. Our gift bags come in weights of 500g or 1kg.

The Ennis Cobnut is a large round nut and has a delicious taste and flavour. If you want an original, rural and wholesome gift this Christmas then our cobnut gift bags are the answer! Ennis cobnuts usually sell out so we recommend ordering soon.

Cobnuts have a nationally recognised nutritional profile and are said to be fantastic sources of protein:

Cobnut kernels typically contain 12%-17% protein by dry weight, and about 10%-15% fibre. Cobnuts are very rich in vitamin E and in calcium, typically containing about 21mg and 141mg per 100g kernel (dry weight) respectively. They provide about 0.4mg and 0.55mg of vitamins B1 and B6 respectively per 100g dry weight.

Our gift bags are available in bag of 500g or 1kg. The bags are perfectly reusable and are made from jute, with a drawstring that seals the bag.

Please also note that all our cobnut gift bags are labeled ‘Kent Cobnuts’ even when ordering a different variety gift bag. All different varieties (non Kent Cob) will have a card attached to the rope detailing the exact variety. Images for display purposes only.

Potted Ennis Cobnut Trees – Out of Stock

We now have a number of Ennis Cobnut trees available in 3 Litre pots – We are out of 7 litre Ennis Cobnut trees. These trees are on British grown roots and are suitable for planting most places in the UK.

These are ideal for planting and producing high yielding trees. Many garden centers currently sell seedling trees and these usually yield very few cobnuts. These trees are the same trees that we grow on the farm and if properly maintained should produce a good crop of Kent Cobnuts.

Cobnuts are packed full of vitamins, minerals and fibre. In winter the catkins on the trees brighten up the trees.

Two varieties are deemed preferable for pollination but not essential as common hedge row nut can assist with pollination.

The trees do vary in size and shape but are generally between 30cm and a meter. We cannot guarantee the size of the trees selected for delivery but every care is taken to select a good tree.

On Arrival:

We advise watering the pot and planting promptly into the ground or into a large pot for later planting if required. The pot should have room to allow further root growth. The tree will need a healthy watering over the first few days.

If planting dig a hole twice the size of the pot and tease out the roots.Make sue that the root ball is level and not at an angle. Water regularly and monitor.

The aim after this point will be to manage the growth of branches. These should be allowed to form at least 60cm from the ground.

A useful pruning and management guide is available from the Kent Cobnut Association. Click Here

Cobnut Cards

Cobnut Cards

During the Winter, Kentish Cobnut plantations (platts) are transformed into magical and serene environments. We are delighted to offer you a unique snapshot of these heritage and beautiful Kentish landscapes in the Winter’s snow.

Our unique card packs feature a reproduction of a wonderful oil painting by Kentish landscape artist Jane Cannon.

Jane specialises in painting rural farming landscapes and identifies with the landscape tradition in British romantic and neo romantic art exemplified by artists such as Samuel Palmer and Paul Nash. Jane also look’s to the realism found in the work of artists such as J F Millet. See more of Jane’s work here

The painting on our cards shows a historic multi-stem cobnut plat in the snow. These trees have been pruned in the traditional style with gnarled knuckles at the top of the stems forming the main cropping area during harvest.

Send a snapshot of Kent and British farming to a loved one, friend or colleague.

  • The cards are blank inside to allow for your own message in or outside of Christmas

Looking for a new environmentally friendly way of mulching your garden?

Try cobnut mulch – a sustainable and attractive base layer for your garden and landscaping projects. The mulch is also an attractive way of filling the bases of pots.

Our new cobnut cracking operation means we are now producing more of this wonderful by-product. By purchasing cobnut shells for your project you will be helping the heritage cobnut sector to continue and also will be using an environmentally sustainable product for your garden.

Our Cobnut Mulch was used at the REEP’s Anglo-Moroccan Garden Project at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. The REEP garden won a Bronze in the Discovery – Regional Winners.

Useful Information

In the photos above we found that 15kg of cobnut mulch comfortably covers 1 meter squared. A thinner layer would be possible with less mulch.

Some nut kernel may remain in the shell mix. Under no circumstances should these be eaten. Please be aware of this when buying – Usually any left over kernels will will biodegrade or get eaten by animals. You may want to be aware of this for the purposes of pets and planning.
