Kent Cobnut Trees
Kent Cobnut Trees – Out of stock – Get notified by email – select quantity and add email
They are available to collect by appointment or delivery. They are bare root and will be without a pot. These trees have been propagated on our own heritage Kent Cobnut trees some of which are 100 years old. This was featured on Marcus Wareing’s tales from the Kitchen garden. These are whips / clones from the heritage mother trees and so should be ideal for producing the Kent Cob variety.
Many garden centres currently sell seedling trees and these usually yield very few cobnuts. These trees are the same trees that we grow on the farm and if properly maintained should produce a good crop of Kent Cobnuts.
They are suitable for planting most places in the UK. Two varieties are deemed preferable for pollination but not essential as common hedge row nut can assist with pollination. We cannot guarantee the size of the trees selected for delivery but every care is taken to select a good tree.
Cobnuts are packed full of vitamins, minerals and fibre. In winter the catkins on the trees brighten up the trees.
We can offer paid for consultation for large field plantings and management. Please email us if you want more than 10 trees.
All trees are different. Their roots, branches, shape vary. So images are only an indication of what the tree will look like.
We advise watering and planting promptly into the ground (if not saturated) or into a large pot for later planting if required. The pot should have room to allow further root growth. The tree will need a healthy watering over the first few days.
If planting make sure that the root ball is level and not at an angle. Water regularly and monitor. Do avoid planting if the ground is totally saturated and wait until drier, perhaps store in a pot during this time. You may need to purchase or make a tree guard ifor protection in the first 4 years.
The aim after this point will be to manage the growth of branches. These should be allowed to form at least 60cm from the ground. As we are now offering 2ft-3ft (61cm-91cm) whips we have begun this for you.

Fresh Forced Rhubarb 1kg-10Kg
2025 Harvest – Forced British Rhubarb – Now finished – Sign up to be notified about the 2026 harvest by selecting a weight and adding your email below.
We have partnered with our friends at a fellow Kentish farm to sell their delicious Forced Rhubarb. At Roughway we love sharing our fresh produce with you but after trying our friends Rhubarb we had to share this seasonal delight. Grown in Kent this Rhubarb is perfect for crumbles, jams, gins and all manner of foodie delights for the Winter season.
Forced Rhubarb is normally thinner than the unforced and it produces these extra thin and elegant stems which outdoor does not. Our bundles of Tender Stem Forced Rhubarb taste delicious, they are thinner sticks than you would find in the supermarkets but there is no difference in flavour or quality. In fact we have found the smaller stems cook slightly faster and you still get bright pink juice and the sticks crumble nicely.
New Thicker Stems – For 2023 we are now able to offer thicker stems from the plants and crop. These are still thinner than outdoor rhubarb but are thicker than the Tender Stems. Please see photos to get an idea on the difference.
Other Information – The Forced Rhubarb Season usually runs from December to March. Tunnelled rhubarb runs from March to May and outdoor from April/June and forced picks up again in December.
You are ordering British Rhubarb with the leaf. This ensures freshness, longevity and greater flavour but remember to cut these off when they arrive. Forced Rhubarb is grown in the dark.
We may occasionally need to cut off the leaf or shorten the rhubarb before dispatch. This is most often due to vigorous growth making them too long for box dispatch.
Currently Available in weights of 1kg, 2kg, 3kg, 4kg, 5kg, 6kg, 7kg, 8kg and 10kg.
Our Rhubarb Boxes are:
– Perfect for cooking those seasonal treats
– Great value
– Farm fresh quality
– Reduced time from field to table
– Traceability – Know exactly where your plums have come from
– Directly Supporting British Farming
Looking after your Rhubarb
We keep the Rhubarb chilled to lock in the freshness. When your bundle arrives if not putting to work straight away then keep it in the fridge. You will have around 1 week with it being at its best but do monitor. Rhubarb is quite hardy and so if you leave it a bit too long then it is worth trying to cook with it so it doesn’t go to waste.

Cobnut Cards
Cobnut Cards
During the Winter, Kentish Cobnut plantations (platts) are transformed into magical and serene environments. We are delighted to offer you a unique snapshot of these heritage and beautiful Kentish landscapes in the Winter’s snow.
Our unique card packs feature a reproduction of a wonderful oil painting by Kentish landscape artist Jane Cannon.
Jane specialises in painting rural farming landscapes and identifies with the landscape tradition in British romantic and neo romantic art exemplified by artists such as Samuel Palmer and Paul Nash. Jane also look’s to the realism found in the work of artists such as J F Millet. See more of Jane’s work here
The painting on our cards shows a historic multi-stem cobnut plat in the snow. These trees have been pruned in the traditional style with gnarled knuckles at the top of the stems forming the main cropping area during harvest.
